    This comprehensive all-day seminar will educate you about each of the essential vitamins and minerals. Each necessary vitamin and mineral will be introduced and explained.

     

  • Which foods are the most abundant in these micronutrients?
  • We will look at vitamin and mineral forms in food and in supplements.
  • The toxicity of vitamins will be discussed.
  • Learn about the commonly deficient minerals, such as iron and iodine.
  • Get to know how magnesium relaxes muscles.
  • Discover which vitamins and minerals provide essential antioxidant protection.
  • You will learn how these nutrients are absorbed from food and transported throughout the body.
  • Find out how a diet rich in vitamins and minerals prevents disease.
  • The amount needed to prevent deficiencies will be presented along with optimum amounts. The information is based upon the teacher's recent textbook from McGraw-Hill—Vitamins and Minerals Demystified. Saturday, October 25, 2008, 9-5pm, with a lunch break.

    This two-hour workshop will look at two of our favorite stimulating substances. Are these fun foods good for us? This is a colorful slide show showing how coffee beans and cacao pods are made into all the products we know and love!

     

  • See how the raw plants are processed into coffee and chocolate bars.
  • Find out about common additives in chocolate bars.
  • Explore the properties of slippery, sweet cocoa butter.
  • Is coffee good for your health or detrimental?
  • Learn more about how stimulants work.
  • Compare antioxidants, caffeine, and bioflavonoids.
  • What about antioxidants in red wine and green tea?
  • What are antioxidants and how do they work?
  • Find out more about polyphenols in coffee and chocolate.
